Visualise, Plan, Achieve: Use Imaginative Forecasting to Propel Personal and Professional Growth
Dear Regina,
I wanted to drop you a quick thank you note.
I'm writing you today as I just received a thank you note from one of my readers. She told me that I changed her life by reading one of my articles. This is only one of many and I couldn't have done it without you.
Thank you for showing up and writing every day. Without this, your writing wouldn't have improved so much. You would not have changed countless lives for the better.
Thank you for all your efforts.
Regina
Introduction to 'Postcard from the Future'
Above is an example of a 'Postcard from the Future'.
It is an exercise I learned during my studies for my coaching diploma.
Are you are suffering from negative self-talk? Are you constantly blocking yourself from starting the thing? Are you not sure what goal to pursue next?
Then this exercise is for you.
It gives you a new perspective and enhances your reflective thinking.
Visualise Success
I invite you to sit down. Take a pen and piece of paper.
Imagine where you want to be in 5 years. What have you achieved?
Keep it simple.
Start by saying 'hi'.
Describe where you are, what you do, how you feel.
Then thank yourself. Be grateful for all the work you have put in to get to that place. To make you feel that way.
Craft then Implement Your Vision
Once your future self has figured it all out, all that is left for you to do is to take the actions.
Your Action Items:
- Imagine your future: Imagine where you see yourself in the future and how you feel.
- Identify Actionable Steps: Break down how you achieved this.
- Write Your Postcard: Create your postcard and write it to yourself.
